Title | Sir Sidney Smith's March |
This tune is popular especially with Northumbrian musicians, but it was composed by James Hook (1746-1827), an organist and composer originally from Norwich. I've known it for decades, having first heard it in about 1975 on Alastair Anderson's "Concertina Workshop" album where he is accompanied by Geoff Harris on guitar.
There are two ABC versions here, both with harmony parts. One transcribed by Chris Partington from S.J Moore (Tyneside, 1851) The other is Anahata's and the harmony part is untested. We may get around to playing it as a duo some day... | |
