Title
Shrewsbury Waltz / Princess Caroline's Waltz
We learned both of these from John Kirkpatrick as part of the overture music for Martyn Wyndham Read's "Song Links" concert at Sidmouth Folk Week in 2002. They are in John Kirkpatrick's book "Garrick's Delight", part of the English Choice series published by Dave "Mally" Mallinson. The earliest source of The Shrewsbury Waltz (in some versions called the Sheffield Waltz) is the 1837-1840 MS by Shropshire musician John Moore. Princess Caroline's Waltz is from Wm.Mittell's MS, New Romney, Kent, 1799.
We played them for many years with our Cambridge based band Fendragon, with Mary on piano. I wrote a brand new harmony part for her to play on concertina for this and possible future performances.
