Described as a "Country Dance", collected by Maud Karpeles who noted it was "Played by Mr. Malon Hamilton (age 85) at East Orange, Vt. [Vermont] Aug 2nd 1929."

The story goes that it appeared in an EFDSS publication on a page facing a description of the Upton Upon Severn Stick Dance (an English morris dance), and was mistakenly assumed to be the tune for the dance. Following that it has now become almost universally used for the Upton Stick dance.

The tune as collected in in the key of A, though it's usually played for morris in G. I noticed that it's playable in both keys on a D/G melodeon, so here you have it twice in each key. (The "A" version is much harder to play and I really need to practice it a bit to get it more fluent.)
