Title
Sir Sidney Smith's March
Date
05 May 2013
This tune is popular especially with Northumbrian musicians, but it was composed by James Hook (1746-1827), an organist and composer originally from Norwich. I've known it for decades, having first heard it in about 1975 on Alastair Anderson's "Concertina Workshop" album where he is accompanied by Geoff Harris on guitar.
There are two ABC versions here. One transcribed by Chris Partington from S.J Moore (Tyneside, 1851) in B♭ and which originally had a harmony part.
The other is Anahata's, in G and with a harmony part which we have road tested at the Bacca Pipes folk club and may get around to recording as a duo some day...
