If you search for Willliam Hurr you can can find the version sung here. The Royal George is a short but moving song about a woman grieving for her sweetheart lost at sea. The Royal George was the name of several British naval ships, the most likely one is one which in 1779 joined Admiral Sir George Rodney's fleet to relieve the port of Gibraltar, and acquitted itself with honours at the Battle Of Cape St Vincent. In 1792 it was being refitted at Spithead en route once again to Gibraltar. Families, tradesmen and ladies of the town were all on board when guns were moved and caused a catastrophic listing of the ship. It keeled over and of the 1200 people on board at the time there were 900 lost, including 300 women and 60 children.
